The director of the first part Gary Ross was not going to direct The Hunger Games sequel. Some other outlets claimed it was an issue of money, but The Playlist explained it was more about motivation and creativity. Ross simply did his part and wanted to move on to something else.

What Ross said was “Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct Catching Fire.”

Fact 1:   After Gary Ross declined to return to direct the movie, Alfonso CuarĂ³n, David Cronenberg, Bennett Miller, Tomas Alfredson, Cary Fukunaga, Duncan Jones and Joe Cornish were considered to replace him. In the end, the job was offered to Francis Lawrence

Finnick won the 65th Hunger Games at the age of 14, where he was mentored by previous District 4 victor, Mags. During the 65th Hunger Games he was given a trident, which was probably the most expensive gift ever given at the Games. During the 74th Hunger Games he served as the mentor alongside Mags for District 4, as revealed in Mockingjay when he becomes the expert on Peeta's memories of his two times in the arena. He participated in the 3rd Quarter Quell a year later, and became part of an alliance with Peeta Mellark, Katniss Everdeen, Wiress, Beetee, Johanna Mason and previous mentor Mags.

Fact2: Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer, Hunter Parrish, Grant Gustin, Joey Graceffa, Luke Mitchell and Garrett Hedlund were considered for the role of Finnick Odair. The role eventually went to Sam Claflin

Johanna Mason is the female tribute from District 7. Sarcastic and mean-spirited, Johanna's first meeting with Katniss involves her stripping naked out of her tree costume in order to make Katniss uncomfortable. She won her original Hunger Games by pretending she was a weakling and a coward, so no one regarded her as a threat, but when only a few tributes remained, she revealed herself as a vicious killer. Johanna teams up with Katniss, Peeta, and Finnick in the Quarter Quell, bringing Beetee and Wiress with her.

Fact3: Zoe Aggeliki and Mia Wasikowska were considered for the role of Johanna Mason before Jena Malone was cast.

Mags are the female tribute from District 4. She is 80 years old and volunteers take the place of Finnick's lover, Annie Cresta, to spare her. She will be portrayed by Lynn Cohen in the 2013 film.

Fact4:  Melissa Leo was considered to play Mags.

The Capitol of Panem is a technologically advanced, utopian city where the nation's most wealthy and powerful reside. The Capitol is also the colloquial name for the ruling government of Panem.
Fact5: Certain Capitol scenes were filmed at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis hotel, one of the hotels where the annual pop culture/ sci-fi convention, Dragon*con, takes place.
