The Hunger Game's Shooting Locations

THE HUNGER GAMES directed by Gary Ross, with a screenplay by Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins and Billy Ray, is produced by Nina Jacobson jointly with producer Jon Kilik.

It is one of the most watched movie with a box office revenue of 691 million dollars. The best part is the exotic locations they have chosen for the scenes. Most of the shooting is done near Asheville and Charlotte.
As the movie starts the first scene shown is the District-12 which is a coal mining district. So the actual location is Appalachia, the area of the eastern US, roughly running from Pennsylvania to Alabama.

Then the home of the character Katniss Everdeen is shown which is an An abandoned village about 50 miles northwest of Charlotte, and was built in the 1920s with its own textile mill, dam, and a company store. Even the bakery at which Peeta works is shot at the same place.

Then we come across a forest where Katniss spends time with her best friend gale. That place is known as The big Ivy area or Coleman Boundary, which is a part of Pisgah national forest near Barnardsville on Route 197 , northeast of Asheville.

Than the reaping for District-12 is shown which is shot in a town called Shelby, 30 miles away from Hildebran.  A private warehouse which is west of South Lafayette Street, downtown was used for District 12’s Reaping Ceremony.

Than the tributes are taken to the capitol where their grand entrance riding the chariots is shown. This scene was filmed in Charlotte Convention Center, 501 South College Street , in Charlotte itself.

The 24 tributes from all the districts are given four days training at a training center. A studio was created by West of Concord, the old Philip Morris Cabarrus Plant, 2321 Concord Parkway South and the training center scenes were shot there.

In the movie small glimpses of district 7 and 11 are shown which the same place is again. All this could only be possible due to 2,100 acres or 2.4 million square feet under one roof.

They were some pre-game interviews conducted by a television presenter which was at the Knight Theatre, 430 South Tryon Street, Charlotte.

As the actual game starts in the arena there is an arrangement of survival packets. The setup was built on private land alongside the North Fork Reservoir, Black Mountain, about 20 miles to the northeast of Asheville.

As the countdown commends Katniss run towards the forest and reaches a reservoir which is at the Craggy Gardens Visitor Centre, 364 Blue Ridge Parkway. As is supplies drinking water normal citizens are not allowed to go near it. Although one can have its view from the Craggy Pinnacle Trail.

And lastly some part of the forest is burned down to stop Katniss from reaching the boundary of the arena is being DuPont State Forest, Staton Road, Cedar Mountain, which is about ten miles southwest of Hendersonville Most of the forest scenes are shot there.

Even the place where Katniss founds peeta wounded near the rocks is the same place. One can find 10,400-acre forest in Henderson and Transylvania Counties, between the towns of Hendersonville and Brevard.

And thus we come towards the end of the list of locations used in the hunger games.
